July 24 - 26

From Langley to Smithers.

With all its complications, arrangements and efforts it is an adventure of excitement.

And it is about time that we share some of it with you. 

We said our farewells. We drove of. 

After that we were were not in a position to communicate much through internet of phone.

So we decided we better play catch up. 

We will show  you some photos and tell a few stories.

After our anniversary on July 12th we began packing in earnest. By time the movers arrived on the 24th we had boxes and packed stuff every where. It turned out to be very helpful that we had the little camping trailer on the driveway. At least we could keep a set of dishes etc. to do meals while everything from our kitchen got packed up.

It is a strange experience to see the home you have build empty out to a shell.

Amy and Tim stayed around in the house for a while longer after we left. Their stuff was to move out a few days later. That made it ever more strange for them to live in a vacated house. No doubt the emptiness added to their feeling of loss and forced change.

We hit the road early on Friday morning. We were delighted that Mary had decided to share the journey and moving experience with us. She drove with Wilma in the car while Ian was with me most of the time in the van.

The planned overnight stay in Quesnel allowed us an easy enough travel pace to get to Smithers by Saturday afternoon. 

Martin and Wilma DeRuyter were there to let us into their rental home on Horlings Rd, just north west of town. It is a good house on a nice 5 acre property with a great view of Hudson Bay Mountain and the glacier.

Over that weekend we as it were camped indoors using our gear from the trailer. 

Judith and Jonathan came to join us for the week. That was really nice to have family with us that quickly. Everyone helped when the truck arrived with all of our stuff. Within days we were comfortable enough sleeping in our own beds and having all of the kitchen stuff in place. That gave us time to do some hiking and exploring. 

Town was of course interesting enough to explore. We had some business to take care of with the moving company, the bank, the realtor, the internet provider, the satellite dish company, etc.

Hiking had its own immediate appeal when the weather turned for the better and became very sunny and hot.

Together with Judith and Jonathan we drove out to the Glacier Gulch. The parking spot where the trail to the Twin Falls begins is maybe 15 minutes from our place. From there on a short walk to the creek that is fed by falls. There is a large bolder that we had to climb around in order to get to the location of the falls themselves.

There is a lot of water that comes down there. Standing in the path of the spray gets you soaked within seconds.
