Multitasking. Lots of activity in school and at the home front.
We had awards assemblies, closing assemblies, last day parties, report card grading, exam writing, and as always lots of meetings. The end is in sight though... if there is such a thing. By Canada Day school things should be a secondary priority.
Tomorrow Ian starts his holidays. He'll be pretty busy cutting lawn, etc. because tomorrow night we are going to have all staff from both campuses and spouses for a year-end BBQ. Seeing that we have lots of room that should be fun. We hope the weather gets drier that it was the last few days.
The concrete for the workshop and garage has been poured. The slab process was something new to me. They certainly have it down to a science. Load bearing calculations and 1 1/2 inch fall in the floors toward the drains, it was all executed with great precision. Quite impressive actually, to see it come about. They poured the concrete on Thursday and applied a sealer coat on Friday. That apparently slows down the drying process so that the whole slab dries evenly without cracking.
Next they will put some forms for the apron in front of the garage doors and for the space between the new building and our house. I'm guessing that by the end of the week we will see some construction happening.
This is pretty exciting. Right now we're picking colours for the siding, timber finish, and roof shingles.
I went for a long walk with the dog this morning.
It struck me that the sounds and smells where we live now are those we enjoyed in years past during camping holidays: crows, squirrels, water, wild roses, Indian Paintbrush, pine smells, etc.
Now it is our backyard.
We are truly blessed.
