There has been snow on the very top of the mountains a few mornings now. Nothing that stays for long but enough to keep us moving on firewood, garden, yard prep, etc.
Last night we had a touch of frost. It didn't worry us too much because on Saturday we achieved much to get us winterized. The main thing, I think, was the completion of the siding and trim on the workshop awnings. Yes, the scaffolding is down and ready to be returned to the generous lenders. In the morning there was no blue on that wall yet, by dinner time it was all done. Ian helped along while Wilma spent much time in the garden harvesting the potatoes and cleaning up most of the veggies. Such perfect timing.
In the evenings during the week Ian and I had been working on bringing in some of the firewood. The covered area beside the workshop makes a perfect spot for storage and for splitting wood. Ian did quite a bit of that already and he is pretty good at it.
Once in a while we would stop to look up in the sky where the Sandhill Cranes were circling in the updrafts making their haunting calls. They certainly add to the Fall feeling.
And we got distracted when Sabre spotted a mother Blackbear and her cub passing by on the hillside. Once in a while the mother would get up on her hind legs to get a better view of Sabre who stood at the bottom of the hill shouting that they should stay off our property. The bears obliged. By time I got my camera out they were sauntering off mostly hidden in the shrubs. This morning, coming back from church we saw them in the neighbours' field eating apples off the ground. They took off into the bush when we stopped to watch them for a while.
School and work has been going well for all of us. This week we had a short visit at school from the Minister of Education. She is new to the job following last Spring's elections and she came by in the process of learning more about Independent schools. We were honoured that she picked our school.
The hecticness of the first weeks of September has become a regular busy pace that leaves enough time for some other things, some decent hours of sleep and even some reading. This is a great blessing.
We are looking forward to the week. We are looking forward even more to the following week when we will drive out to the Fraser Valley for the Teachers' Convention and some Thanksgiving family time.
