The second last week of August 2011 will remain a memorable one for us and especially for Amy.
We had a great time traveling together from Langley, through the Rockies to Edmonton with the purpose of bringing Amy to her new home for the next few years.
It was so great that Tim and James could come along on the journey. They were great company and together with Ian and Amy they often provided the humour and banter of an oldtime family trip.
We took two days for the journey so we could travel leisurely. On the first day we made stops in Salmon Arm, Revelstoke, Rogers Pass and Golden. On the second we took our time along the Icefields Highway. Moraine Lake was in its usual glory. Wilma and I had not taken the walk up to the Columbia Icefield in the past but we did so together now. That was very interesting indeed.
Our stay in Edmonton was good. Wilma, Amy and I were really thankful for the opportunity to visit Kings' University together. The boys, by their account, absolutely loved the day at the West Edmonton Mall.
The journey back got us past Mount Robson at one of those rare moments that the top is not shrouded and obscured by clouds. The Monday after our return home, Albert, Christine, and Timon Knigge arrived. Timon is a new Dutch International student at BVCS and he will live with us for the next 10 months. His parents came to bring him to Smithers and stay with us for a few days. We had a wonderful time together. It afforded us time to get to know each other and appreciate the recognition of values and backgrounds we share. We are really confident that Timon's stay with us will be a blessed time.
Besides the obligatory tours of town and school we also had a chance to hike up to Crater Lake. The weather was a bit iffy, as most of the summer has been, but the hike turned out very well. It was good for Timon that two other classmates could come up with us.
Tomorrow is Labour Day, the last day of our summer break. Tuesday we will be back at it with energy and new zeal.
Regardless of the changes in our lives and work, or maybe because of them, we live with a real sense of gratitude and joy.
God has been good to us. Our weeks of relaxation, family time and travel have been a long string of evidences that God cares for us and for all of His children. We move from day to day feeling the sting of every time that we do not meet the standard that God sets for our lives, but it is immediately followed by an inexpressable joy over the grace with which He makes us right and complete.
When he holds out the beauty of His creation, the grandure of the mountains and the vastness of his world, the things He gets to enjoy everyday, He wants us to know that we are part of that joy. He has joy over every moment in our lives that we show his greatness and reflect his grace.
He is a great God indeed and well worthy of our adoration.
