It was bound to happen ... a sudden drop in temperatures.
We were surprised at the speed of it. From around freezing on Thursday night, to -10 on Friday and -30 by Sunday morning.
From the inside it does not make a whole lot of difference other than a bit of frost on some of the windows. But going for a walk with the dog is suddenly a different undertaking. It takes bundling up the limbs and grabbing a bit of courage. Once outside it is gorgeous though. I took Saber for a walk to the river on Saturday morning. Pieces of ice are flowing along the centre and many parts of the river banks are frozen up. The cold vapours hang over the water and slowly move up and around. It is quite fascinating and beautiful.
Ian had a special week. On Tuesday night his class had a 'Medieval Feast' in connection with the social studies unit they had been studying. They had a special meal in Medieval style and all the kids were dressed up, for as far as possible, in Middle Age costumes.
Then on Saturday his basketball team had their first play day. They did not win any games but Ian played very well. His hours of shooting hoops with Tim and Brandon now pays dividends. At the end of one quarter he came dribbling along the side, had a quick glance at the clock then threw a long one handed shot at hoop for a three pointer. The whole crowd was awed and impressed.
Wilma has been busy with her school work and with house painting. The guest room and downstairs bathroom are in process and will hopefully be finished in a few days. It is remarkable how colour and decorating choices that are 'us' can turn the feeling of a room around. It no longer has the uncomfortable feeling of a stanger's place, but becomes home.
We have one week of school left. We are all looking forward to the Christmas break.
It seems as if school is all I do besides eating and sleeping. As school administration we are in the midst of a process of school restructuring that requires a lot of extra meetings and attention. A lot of the work needs to be done before the end of January.
Ian is looking forward to the break so that he can get going on the winter sport thing.
Wilma is ready to take a pause from the work with her DL students and the house painting.
We are getting into the Christmas spirit. The new wood stove is going nicely. It give a nice warmth and creates great ambiance. :-) We've pulled out the box with wreaths and candles and special table cloths. Ian has set up the Christmas tree and hung the lights. He made a start with the ornaments but most of that will wait till Amy and Tim are here. That will be in three days.

It sounds VERY cold there! But never mind, I'll get to experience it for myself in 3 days!!!!! (okay, so I dislike the cold, but I'm still exited!)
On a side note to Ian: Perhaps for the next princely photo shoot you could tone down the excitement - even just a little... I know it's hard, but try. For me?
