School is back in session. It has been a busy week but a good one. There was little time left in the week for anything but school work.
It was good to be back to work with all of the students there. It does feel quite different to start this year compared to last year.
Last week Saturday some friends came by to fell a few trees that were either dead or leaning. By time they left about six trees we on the ground, bucked up for firewood or sized for the burn pile. Now we have to sort it all and get it moved to the right place for winter. The bucked up pieces need to be covered so that they can dry through the winter and next summer. The small stuff and bad logs need to be burned as soon as that is safe, probably when we have some snow.
That means that we have to move the piles that were left from last year and get them ready for this winter's firewood.
This Saturday morning we went out to a small timber mill to pick up lots of lumber scraps. We cut them short with a chainsaw and filled the pickup truck. By evening we have a frame undercover by the work shop door, full of good dry kindling.
I also worked on the dog kennel. Pa and George will be happy to know that the roof is on the shelter, but no roof shingles yet. The gate has a built in brace that should prevent the thing from ever sagging.
And Tim will be happy to know that all of the corner trim, base trim, and window trim on the garage is done. I still intend to finish the awning close to the house, hence the scaffolding in the photos.
Wilma has been able to process all the good green apple of our one apple tree and some of the red apples. Now she has plenty of apple sauce. The rest of the apples we will give away. Come and get them. :-)
This afternoon we went for a canoe ride on the Bulkley River. A couple called us if we wanted to come along with them and their daughter. We put in near the Telkwa bridge and floated along to Smithers. There were a number of spots with a bit of rapid water and hidden rocks, but nothing crazy. It was a beautifully relaxing afternoon along with good fellowship.
This week promises to be a full one with meetings and a conference at the end.
Stay tuned for that story in a week or two.
